Getting There
Mexico City has two airports, we recommend Mexico City International Airport Benito Juárez
From Mexico City, there are a few options to get to Cuernavaca:
-
Most of the hotels in Cuernavaca can help coordinate private transportation from Mexico City to Cuernavaca. If you'd prefer to have something scheduled and organized before your trip, we'd recommend coordinating directly with your hotel or consider EXPLOREMex Tours, the company recommended by our event planner.
-
Uber. We strongly recommend using Uber as the safest option to get around Mexico in general, over taxis. Although getting an Uber from one city to another an hour away might be downright impossible in the US or other countries, it is easy to find a ride to Cuernavaca from Mexico City for roughly ~$30-$50 USD. Keep in mind that the cars in Mexico are generally smaller than in the US, so depending on the amount of people and the size of your luggage, you might consider an UberXL.
-
If you want an authentic experience, Pullman De Morelos operates a bus from Terminal de Autobuses T1 AICM to Cuernavaca Casino every 30 minutes for about $5-$18 USD.
Once You're There
If you're spending some time in Mexico City, here are the major neighborhoods we recommend staying and exploring in

Coyoacán
An absolute classic. This neighborhood is stunning and overflowing with history. You can visit the home Frida Kahlo grew up in and the house where Leon Trotsky lived in after he was exiled from Russia, both are highly recommended. Other suggestions include checking out the bar, La Calaca where there is almost always live music in the evening and a giant skull behind the bar.

Condesa/Roma Norte
One of the trendiest neighborhoods in Mexico City, stay here if you want access to the hippest bars and restaurants. Strolling down Avenida Amsterdam, checking out Parque España and generally bopping around to different eateries is highly recommended.

Polanco
If you want a luxurious stay, Polanco will deliver. Plus it is the home of Museo Soumaya, a museum owned by Carlos Slim, Mexico's wealthiest man. It has rotating exhibits, but the top floor tends to stay the same and includes an incredible selection of sculptures by Rodin and Dalí.
Additional Activities to Consider in Mexico City
Teotihuacan Pyramids
Located on the outskirts of Mexico City is a vast archeological wonder. In Nahuatl, the language of the natives pre-colonization, Teotihuacan translates to "the home of the Gods." It is appropriately impressive.
El Zócalo
Don't want to leave the city, but still want to see some Aztec ruins? Look no further than El Zocalo—smack dab in the middle of the city, the ruins of Tenochtitlan were unearthed under the main city square in the late 70s. Along with most touristy places in Mexico City, El Zocalo gets crowded, plan accordingly.
Xochimilco
Take a ride on a brightly colored boat called a "trajinera" through the canals in Mexico City. Most fun if done with a group and a bottle of tequila!
